Newsletter August (1) 2026

Dear rowing friends,

The hottest days of the year should be over. But summer still has a lot to offer, such as our newsletter today, in which you can read about great regatta successes of the youth and a successful hiking trip in the north, we ask for your help – and inform about upcoming construction work.

Warm greetings,
Your board of directors

Clubhouse/infrastructure

Attention: Limited access to the MRC1880 from 7 to 18 September

The wastewater association wants to rinse the sewer ring. It has nothing to do with our redevelopment. For this purpose, temporarily large pipes are laid on the steamship road. A passage by car is probably not possible during the time. Boats cannot be transported. Please plan accordingly.

Helpers are needed to prepare for the refurbishment

We would be happy to receive a lot of help. The MRC has taken out accident insurance for all helpers.

Schindelabnehmer

Our shingles are made by a historic hardware store (www.historische-baustoffe-ostalb.de/) taken over. In this way, other historic houses can be repaired and we save disposal costs. Therefore, we also want to take the shingles in our own work.

We count on your help!

We need helpers who are expected to climb on the scaffolding on four days between October and March and carefully remove the shingles with us. The scaffolding assistants should

  • over 18,
  • ideally experienced scaffolding or climbing,
  • But in any case, be sure-footed, dizzy and prudent.
  • To do this, we need a hard-working ground crew who will receive the shingles, reprocess them, sort them and package them if necessary.

If you would like to be part of the former, please contact Rolf directly at rolf.schuh1@googlemail.com.

All who register will be informed about everything else and about the scheduling. Before the work starts, there will be a comprehensive safety briefing from our safety coordinator.

Spindle carrier

In addition, we are looking for strong carriers to carry our many lockers, be it wooden or metal spindles out of the house by October and to bring them to the interim storage or to the landfill. Here we hope for our strong power rudders and our Munich8 members. Please contact Rolf.

Seller

Last but not least: We have to separate ourselves from some furniture and components. We are happy to take a few euros for this. We are looking for a talented seller who offers things for us on Ebay / Classifieds etc. Please contact Rolf directly under the heading ‘Seller’.

Eviction of the Men's Spinde

A small reminder for the gentlemen who have not yet cleared their lockers: Please clear them out immediately.
Otherwise, we will pack the contents in labeled boxes from Saturday. We can keep them until the end of the month so that the stragglers can still pick up their things. In addition, we no longer have storage capacity and we then have to dispose of things.

Historic low water

Our lake is suffering from a historically low water level. In order to save water, we would like to ask that only boats that are visibly dirty are rinsed off from the outside and if possible only with the watering can or in places. All other boats are only rubbed dry. The water that we take out of the lake should only be used for watering some plants (see watering plan).

Club life

The MRC1880 in the far north

In July, an MRC1880 hike to Hamburg and Copenhagen took place. Here is a report:

Donations

Clear the way – our common course towards the future

Your donation – small or large – brings us closer to the goal of renovating our beautiful, venerable boathouse. Every contribution counts. Each euro shows: We are pulling together – as if in a boat. For our planning, we assume that each member contributes an average of €1,000 – also in partial amounts or staggered over the entire construction period. This is how we manage to get our century project on track together.

Donations will, of course, Donation receipts issued. You're there right now? Then let's go!

So that you know exactly where your money is going, we offer you two possibilities to bring your donation directly to the water:

Our recommendation: Donation to the German Foundation for the Protection of Monuments (DSD)

Why? Donations to the DSD benefit our MRC boathouse: and the best: Every euro donated is doubled by a generous sponsor! Therefore, this is our preferred path.

  • Beneficiary: Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz
  • IBAN: DE71 500 400 500 400 500 400
  • BIC: COBADEFFXXX
  • Intended use: ‘PR07848-01 MRC boathouse’

Or simply donate Online via the DSD.

Alternative: Direct donation to the MRC

If you prefer to donate directly to our association without detours, you are of course welcome to do so:

  • Beneficiary: MRC 1880 e.V.
  • Bank: VR Bank Starnberg
  • IBAN: DE02 7009 3200 0002 9880 03
  • Intended use: Donate boathouse

The magazine is published annually in the format Din A4 in the amount of about 40 to 60 pages.
A basic design concept and layout are already in place and can be reused.

This task includes:

  • Safe handling of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop

  • Sentence and typographic design, adjustment of text and image breaks- partial support of advertisers- the incorporation of change requests, about three correction loops- creation of the print-ready PDF file including prepress/preflight

The time required is about 40 to 60 hours (depending on the scope)

The next club magazine is expected to be ready for print in January 2027.

Interested? If you can imagine taking over this activity, please contact the Board of Directors or the Editor-in-Chief Vera Bub (clubmagazin@mrc1880.de) to report. The previous workflows, the existing layout and the required software can still be discussed.
