World Junior Championships with Emma Bartelmeß and David Martirosyan

Emma Bartelmeß and David Martirosyan successfully represent the MRC and Germany at the U19 World Cup in Trakai, Lithuania.

Our Emma and her partner Mia Tetiwa from the rowing club Nuremberg v. 1880 were so motivated by our young national coach David that they achieved an outstanding start-finish victory in the B final of the U19 World Championships in the 2-. They were able to keep their hard-won lead over the vice European champions from France and bring them safely over the finish line.
Thank you for presenting the club colours so strongly.  We are also happy with you that you obviously had fun there.
Keep it up and congratulations!

New bathing jetty

The new bathing jetty is enthusiastically received by young and old. Although we had initially worried about the cost of € 45,000, the renewal of the rotten old beams with pollutant-free, durable, beautiful oak boards was cheaper and worth the effort – by the way, the super craftsmanship. An additional quality is provided by the comfortable bathing staircase donated by Ulrike Mertz. Thank you very much for this!

As attractive as the pier is, we nevertheless ask that guests be invited only occasionally and only from the direct family environment.

energy

Both our gas and water consumption are strong again last year.
increased. Currently, despite many savings elsewhere, we pay about 12,000 €/year in energy and water costs. Money, which we could use well for the refurbishment. Extensive long-term showering, as some like to do, consumes a lot of energy and impairs our efforts to reduce CO2. Please help everyone (including guests)!

This video provides interesting insights into the energy demand from the point of view of the usual performances of ergo rowers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rcfbp6pqtkw (external link)

Our energy team with Andreas Neuer, Jochen Leiffer, Stefan Holz, Uschi Altendorfer, Reinhard Niejodek, Stefan Raab, Manni Stefener and Jennifer Rupp started work 3 weeks ago and is working on the ‘CO2 neutral club’ concept, initially for the main building as part of the renovation, but also for the ladies’ house in the future.

Planning of refurbishment

The plans for the clubhouse renovation are progressing well. Uli and Stefan are working hard to acquire funding and establish sponsor contacts. Events and auctions are also in preparation to expand our fundraising campaign (see below).

For reasons of subsidy technology (optimisation of subsidies) and species protection law (bats, swallows, sparrows), we are thinking about starting the clubhouse renovation in the spring of 2026. Of course, subject to your consent and building permit. In order to be prepared, our logistics team still needs colleagues who enjoy organizing. The house must be cleared, objects and boats removed and relocated, as well as alternatives created. We are looking forward to active support: Please contact Stefanie (keyword logistics team) stefanie.monecke@mrc1880.de).

What else can we do? Our fundraising campaign for the house renovation continues, whereby the new bridge can also be included. Your bathers are also welcome to participate.

Parking on the club grounds

Please park in such a way that ambulances still come in! From the gate to the main entrance next to the boathouse, a passage must be left free. It is not allowed to park in front of the tool shed and the garbage house. And please remember, especially in the heat, that our less mobile or older members have priority in the parking lot. The few parking spaces are also reserved exclusively for MRC members.
Thank you very much!

Open Monument Day on 14.09.2025

Valuable: Unaffordable or irreplaceable?

This is the motto of this year’s Open Monument Day – as made for our rowing club, which is proud of Germany’s oldest rowing boat house still in use.
Every year, the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz (German Foundation for the Protection of Monuments) organizes this day as a contribution to the European Heritage Week and wants to make the importance of monument preservation and cultural heritage accessible to a wide audience.
For the first time, the MRC is participating in this venture. The Team Clubgeschichte offers guided tours of our listed clubhouse to the interested public (hourly from 12:30 to 15:30) and will also tell the story of the rowing club.
Of course, club members are also cordially invited to take part in a guided tour.
Participate!

Since we also show the spiral staircase and the historic lockers in the men's locker room during the guided tours, we ask the gentlemen who want to row this afternoon to come already moved and ‘shower’ in the lake if possible.

For the Open Monument Day, your support would be great – be it as a contact person for guests or a homemade cake!  If you would like to do your club service in this context (11.30-17.30), please contact clubdienst@mrc1880.de.

Save the date: 20.9. and 11.10.

On 20.9. an information event on the refurbishment is planned – details will follow.

On 11.10. This is followed by an Extraordinary General Assembly. On this day, we will hold the board elections and decide on the next steps in our construction project. The topics of financial contribution and possible increase in membership fees will also be discussed.

This concerns all of us – there are many of them and they are marked in the calendar!

Benefit auction at the MRC1880

Your ideas and talents are in demand!
Our rowing club is not only strong on the water – we also have a lot of potential on land! Whether creative minds, artisans, kitchen heroes or language geniuses - we know that there is much more to our club than muscle strength and endurance.
And that's exactly what we need now! We've made a lot of plans. Let's activate club life.

Our idea: a colourful, lively auction – by members for members. The proceeds of the auction will be donated to the club. An action that not only brings money, but also brings us closer together.
What could you contribute? A home-cooked soup dinner? A handmade unique piece from your workshop? A few hours of tutoring in languages, math or music? A weekend in your holiday home? And and …

Let your imagination run wild! Anything that brings joy and value is welcome, whether it is ideal or material. We look forward to your contributions – and to an auction that will be remembered!

If you already have ideas, write to us: auktion@mrc1880.de

Review of festivals

Our summer party on the last Saturday in July was a complete success. More than 80 guests came despite bad weather, frolicked in Haus & Hof and enjoyed the long, delicious buffet of homemade food that was set up in the club room.
Many thanks to the organizers and hard-working helpers!

In August, the Haus & Hof team held a small rowing party with board to celebrate the numerous achievements of last year, from fire protection to skull camp.
