Dear rowing friends,
We hereby give you an update on our planned refurbishment project as well as on its financing and the started fundraising campaign:
First of all, we would like to thank all those who responded to our call in June and gave feedback or donated directly. In total, we have received donations or pledges of about €300,000 from about 70 members. This is a very encouraging start, thanks again!
At the same time, these figures also mean that we have further significant donor potential in our club. We have already achieved almost half of the target of the €650,000 we mentioned at the Annual General Meeting. We appeal to you to follow our call. Every contribution is important and gives us more security for financing.
Your donations will be created on an interest-bearing account and will only be used for the project. The more we generate donations together, the fewer loans we have to take out, save interest accordingly and the lower the planned surcharge or contribution increases can be. We are convinced that we need to refurbish our clubhouse in order to enable sport and club life in the MRC 1880 at a high level in the coming decades.
The architect and the specialist planners are commissioned. Together with us, they are working intensively on the designs for the refurbishment, so that the data from the feasibility study are verified and updated. Our goal is that we will tell you more about the content, costs, the key milestones and the schedule in a timely manner as part of an event before the extraordinary general meeting. We will invite you to do so. Currently, we continue to expect a total of €4 million for planning, construction and site management. The total includes about 20% as a safety buffer for unforeseen events and cost increases. Of course, we also continuously check what savings potential we have.
In terms of financing, our own resources are a first essential component of financing. These consist of reserves, donations, surcharges, contribution increases and own contribution. Through your donation commitments and our accumulated reserves in recent years, we already have a total amount of about € 1 million firmly available for this purpose.
With regard to grants as a second financing component, we continuously hold discussions with relevant bodies. We are currently looking for grants totalling around €1.5 million. These come from the Bavarian State Sports Association, the City of Munich, various heritage protection institutions and the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BafA) in conjunction with an improvement in the energy efficiency of our clubhouse. We are currently preparing the preliminary enquiries and applications with the corresponding documents.
A remaining gap of around €1.5 million must be covered by higher own resources (e.g. donations and surcharges), loans and, if necessary, further grants. With regard to the loans, the BLSV has already promised us about €240,000 as part of its support package. If we do not raise enough own funds for full financing, we will take out loans with maturities of 10-20 years, so that we can fill a possible remaining gap. We are talking to banks about this.
Several times we have heard from you that many are still reluctant to make donations because they want to better understand the overall picture of costs and financing. We will show you this end of September so that you can see what amount of money is due when and for what, and what benefits we can expect when. For the planned Extraordinary General Meeting, we will present you with concrete proposals for implementation for decision.
We are convinced that the commitment is worthwhile, because we win:
- A clubhouse that, together with our spacious property in a prime location, the boat park, the ladies' house and the bathing jetty, meets modern standards and is a jewel on the lake and our place of identification.
- An additional large sports room with state-of-the-art equipment in the DG
- A hall that can be reused as such: for events, compensatory sports or for sitting together in bad weather - without having to relocate.
- A secure building that allows us to celebrate and gather in full use of space capacity.
- A well-used and stylish house with all rooms in a functionally optimized design.
What is the current timetable?
- Information event on the current state of planning and financing on 20. Sept. 2025 in the MRC; Invitation follows
- Extraordinary General Meeting (MV) with decision on the implementation of the project, expected on 11. Oct. 2025; Invitation follows
- Subject to MV decision: Construction application in the first quarter of 2026
- Start of construction in 2026, after construction approval and securing financing
- Please check your options to get involved in our team project. We are convinced that it is worth the MRC 1880 as a whole. Rowing is teamwork, so is our home refurbishment. We now have the opportunity to do so.
Thank you very much - Your Board
