Despite all the good intentions, the rowing year in January often begins somewhat phlegmatically. After the relaxed holidays with everything that goes with it, it's not easy to sit on the ego and unwind the kilometers. Nevertheless, we MRC women decided at short notice to start the rowing year 2005 with a jump in the cold water, with a small challenge: the eighth edition of the DRV and Concept2 Women’s Rowing Challenge.
So it was that we faced the four challenges: it was eight minutes until 8 January, 15 minutes until 15 January, 22 minutes until 22 January and, yes, exactly! – row for 30 minutes until 30 January. For us, it was mainly about the number of kilometers that we can drive together as a club. The enthusiasm was great, there was talk around, rowing partners found each other and on Sundays there was the opportunity to climb the ergo in the MRC with support. It was also no problem to enter after already completed challenges, because you did not have to drive all four challenges to participate.
In the end, we were 46 women, spread over all five age groups, with a total mileage of just over 502 km, and we made it to 34th out of 169 in the nationwide club ranking! In the end, all participants were lively and happy, and in order to challenge themselves more richly, purposefully and regularly, and possibly even to have gained a new perspective on ergo training. And above all, to have achieved a common goal with other women from the club!
We look forward to next year and hope that more women will join us. A heartfelt thank you to all the ergoruders who were there, and until next year!
