Newsletter Christmas 2024 🎅

Dear MRCler,
Dear rowing friends

After the two celebrations of Advent and the sportsman's ceremony with Christkindlmarkt, we say goodbye with this newsletter for 2024.

  • Review Advent Celebration and Athlete's Ceremony
  • Call for women’s rowing challenge 2025
  • Atlantic adventure – a Schondorfer was there

On New Year's Eve, there will be no official New Year's Eve rowing this time. Please check the crewman to see what's going on or make an appointment with each other if the weather is good.

We would like to thank all our supporters for this year.
In particular, in addition to the usual work, the Haus- und Hof team has also repaired the damage caused by heavy rain events, advanced fire protection and escape routes, coordinated the service organization and kitchen operation, tackled the archive and the reappraisal of the MRC1880 history, as well as taken the first concrete step towards large-scale renovation planning. We also thank the networkers and copywriters of the communication for setting up the new homepage and the numerous newsletters, and not least thanks to all committed trainers and active people who support our association.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2025.
Your board of directors

Review Advent Rowing and Celebration on the 14th December

The rowing event was well attended with about 70 participants, other guests came to celebrate. With crispy pizza from the pizza truck, salads, waffles, Christmas treats and mulled wine from the winemaker, the best weather and an adventurously designed power room was provided for a good atmosphere all around.

Review Christkindlmarkt with sportsmen's ceremony on the 21st December

In an atmospheric open-air atmosphere tolerable with fire barrels, the honor of the sporting MRC successes of 2024 as well as the volunteers engaged in the sports sector took place on 21.12.24. Our Munich8 group had designed the event very creatively as a Christmas market with mulled wine, other drinks and fine things. Uli Kulozik thanked all those involved in the preparations and welcomed the approximately 120 MRC members, parents and guests of other clubs who gave the event an illustrious setting.
Frank Salzmann gave the laudatory speech for all honoured persons and, together with his wife Imke, awarded the prizes or gifts from Karen Schindler's clothing range or the DRV rowing calendar.
Hellmuth Nordwig then paid tribute to the achievements of the grassroots athletes and rowers with words and corresponding badges.
As a highlight we were able to honor Kaspar Virnekäs and Tom Tewes at the end: Our two DRV-A squadrons, most recently at the Basel-Head in the Deutschlandachter with record time on the road, arrived on time from Dortmund thanks to a punctual train, where they had to take an ergo performance test at the Federal Base in the morning.

Women’s Rowing Challenge 2025 – We are here!

We considered joining the Women’s Rowing Challenge organised by DRV and Concept2 as a club. The challenge already takes place in January 2025 and consists of four tasks, which are driven on the ergometer:

1st - 8th January (8 min),
9-15 January (15 min),
16-22 January (22 min),
23rd - 30th January (30 min)

Here you can find all the information about the challenge:

If you are interested, please register directly here at the Challengeportal: https://challenge.rudern.de/signup (external link)

Here are the most important details:

According to the motto: Every participant and every meter counts, it is not only important to ride as many meters as possible in the specified time on the ergo, but also to mobilize as many women and girls as possible from the club. So, do not be shy and join in – whether you are a beginner or a professional, a rower or a racing boat specialist, a junior or a master rower!

The Challenges must be driven on a Concept2 Indoor Rower (Model B, C, D, E). Only female starters from the age of 12 who are divided into 5 age groups are allowed: U18 (12-17 years), U30 (18-29 years), Ü30 (30-44 years), Ü45 (45-59 years), Ü60 (60+ years).

Each challenge must be completed within one week and entered in the Challenge Portal – but at the latest by the respective end date: 8 January (Round 1), 15 January (Round 2), 22 January (Round 3) and 30 January (Round 4). The participants can enter their results themselves in the portal and have them verified by the challenge manager (this works via a photo of the ergo computer with meter and time indication, which is sent to the challenge manager). Each challenge can only be rowed once.

If you don't have a Concept2 indoor rower at home, you can use the indoor rowers in the club if they are not in use at fixed training times (e.g. Saturday afternoon or Sunday after 11 a.m.). We try to offer a joint challenge rowing appointment at the MRC every weekend. These dates will be entered in the Crewman in time.

It would be great if we could inspire many women and girls from the MRC for the challenge!
