The German Youth Championships ended successfully on the Elfrather See in Krefeld on Sunday. The joint training team of MRC and MRSV returned to Lake Starnberg with 17 medals and many sporting top performances.
It was probably the hottest youth championships ever held in Germany. At temperatures around 40 degrees, the 15 athletes from MRC and MRSV showed real brilliance. A huge compliment to our 15 participating rowers and 6 coaches and supervisors for this great track record.

It was a regatta of extremes. Due to the predicted heat, the races were reduced to the international regulations: In the end, the B-finals were cancelled and the race distances were shortened to 4 minutes in order to finish the race before the afternoon heat.
In addition, there was an organizational challenge, as the regatta, which was organized by the Essen rowing regatta club, was actually to take place on Lake Baldeney. However, due to an algae spreading in the lake, an alternative body of water had to be found a few weeks earlier. The Krefelder agreed to help out at short notice. For our coaching team an additional orga challenge, because new accommodations had to be found nearby. At start times from 8.00 o'clock in the morning an important building block to success!
Our MRC/MRSV training group also participated with their first start at the DJM:
- Felix Schröder (MRC)
- Friedrich Arlt (MRC)
- Felicia Schubert (MRSV)
- Freia Kirrmeier (MRSV)
Here, too, we saw special achievements of our young rowers, even if they did not make it to the podium this time.
Our youth were supervised by the coaching team with Andi Fischbach, David Martirosyan, Lukas Schübel, Moritz Weighart, Valery Hauck and Elias Krauthause.
We congratulate all participants on their great successes and the proven courage to show top performance even under extreme conditions. A big thank you to the coaching team and all the helping hands. Hipp hipp hurrah!
And now we have to keep our fingers crossed for the national team nominations for the U19 World Championship and the Coup de la Jeunesse 2026!
