Rowing training on Lake Starnberg redefined!
A lot has happened in the MRC's training operations. We use the start of the new season to give you an overview.
Since last September, there has been a close training community for children and young people with our neighbouring club in Starnberg, the MRSV. After the main trainer for competitive sports has retired there, we have repositioned ourselves together: The training team and the coaching staff were put together and massively expanded. New training opportunities have also been created for adult grassroots sports. An overview of the impressive sports business in all its diversity can be found on our site.
Specifically:
Children's and youth area
Children's and youth sports are now divided into three areas:
Performance training, regatta group and grassroots sport.
Performance training
The aim is to participate in the German Championships, to qualify for the rankings of the German Rowing Association and to qualify for the junior national teams of the German Rowing Association (DRV).
The main trainers are now David Martirosyan and Andreas Fischbach. David Martirosyan moved from Speyer to Munich for his dual studies. He completed his Federal Voluntary Service (BFD) in the RG Speyer and established contact with the MRC there via Lissy Tröger. Since spring 2024, he has been training the young people of the MRC with Andreas Fischbach. Moritz Weighart continues to support the training as a supervisor after the BFD. Together with the MRSV, the young competitive athletes, divided by age group, train at 5-10 units per week. Currently, about 20 young people belong to this group.
Unfortunately, Lukas Schübel will no longer be available to us as a coach due to professional and private changes. Lukas, thank you for your many years of intensive and successful support and hopefully see you soon in the boat.
Regatta group
The aim here is to participate in regional regattas and, if desired, also to train and prepare for performance training. The regatta group includes children and adolescents who do not (no longer) train to the maximum, but still want to start on regattas. The group includes more than 60 young people across the club and trains 2-4 times a week.
For this group, which re-formed last year, we were able to win Armin Hörtreiter as coordinator and trainer. As usual, Justus Kondziella is on hand as supervisor and trainer, in addition to Jonas Fischbach and Katharina Sondermann from the MRC, as well as Anne Ried, Torge Echternach and Benno Schreiner from the MRSV.
Justus Kondziella and Jonas Fischbach completed their training as instructors at the Bavarian Rowing Association in autumn.
Recreational sports Youth / Children
We also offer regularly supervised training appointments for children and adolescents without competition ambitions (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday). Here, our young rowing athletes can develop their skills as part of the regatta group training.
In addition, our popular beginner courses for children take place 3 times a year, in groups of up to 12 participants. Guido Gilbert took over the tax for the training and integration of the youngest from Andi Fischbach in September. He is supported by Kathi Sondermann, Lilly Mücke, Imke Salzmann and Friederike Winter. All three courses were successful in 2025. We were able to win 8-10 new members each.
The student rowing with the Kurt-Huber-Gymnasium in Gräfelfing was put on new contractual legs in 2025. Our coordinator and trainer is Christian Horbach, supported by Felix Förster. In this group, about 36 students row regularly with us.
Munich 8
It is a unique offer in Munich for ambitious rowers who are over 20, but do not want to be admitted to the national team. Most recently, 20 rowers and 12 rowers were involved in the Munich8, which was successfully built up by Armin Hörtreiter over six years and trained until autumn 2025. Friederike Winter and Amadé Wagner are currently coordinating the training operations. We are currently working intensively on the succession for Armin.
Sports for adults / beginners
Once a year, Udo Schilling and his team organize a beginner's course for adults. A total of 7 instructors each take on 4 beginners over a period of 12 weeks. The courses start in April with a fixed date per week. The training group includes Michael Alt, Christian Horbach, Ann-Kathrin Krutsch, Liane Löser, Polly Pollchristoph, Imke Salzmann and Friederike Winter. He refreshes old experiences and integrates newcomers into our club.
Masters rowing
Competition-oriented masters get their money's worth with us: We offer organized rowing for masters who want to participate in national and international long-distance and spa regattas. Friederike Winter takes care of this group.
We are very proud of the great voluntary commitment and thank all those who make our ‘rowing together experience’ possible.
We are looking forward to a great and successful 2026 season.
