Newsletter November (1) 2025

Dear MRCler,
Dear rowing friends

At the beginning of the dark season, our themes revolve more around indoor sports, safe sports, as well as light and warmth in our rooms, so that winter operations can continue:

  • Training Plans Rowing in Winter
  • Indoor Rowing/Men´s Rowing Challenge
  • Safe Sport in the MRC
  • Renovation plan Clubhouse
  • Heating and saving energy; House and yard update
  • Advent party with information round planned for new members
  • The Golden Book
  • Looking for help with communication

Our member Doris Maidenwoman-Roth died. Doris was successful at the Rosinanas 2018 in the boat (post picture, 4th from right). We will keep them in positive memory.

Our sympathy goes to husband Jörg Roth, relatives and friends. The flag in the MRC was hung on half-mast.

Many greetings
Your board of directors

Indoor rowing: Men’s Rowing Challenge 2025 and Indoor Rowing Badges

Men’s Rowing Challenge Update

The Men’s Rowing Challenge is in full swing and we are doing well!

After initial difficulties with the Challenge Portal, meter collecting and verification now works without any problems again. A total of 39 participants of all ages contribute to this, from the boys in children’s training to our eldest at 85. At the moment, the MRC ranks 12th out of 78 participating clubs, but this is constantly changing. In the age group 60 we are in first place. What a great community effort!

From 23.11. the fourth challenge will be driven (30 minutes). Due to the difficulties with the portal, the first two challenges (8 and 15 minutes) can be submitted until 30.11.

It's not too late to join! With three simple steps, you'll be there:

  1. Register on the Challenge Portal (https://challenge.rudern.de/signup)
  2. Putting on the ergo and driving the right challenge (see above and not the bonus challenges) #1 and #Forgot about 2!)
  3. Enter the rowed meters in the Challenge Portal and send a picture of the ergo computer to our email for verification (ergo-challenge@mrc1880.de).

Your Challenge Managers Birgit, Friederike, Audrey and Michael

DRV Indoor Rowing Sports Badge

Last year, the DRV introduced the indoor rowing sports badge. For this purpose, ergo units must be completed over 2, 15 and 40 minutes. Depending on the distance reached (and age group), the badge can then be purchased in bronze, silver or gold.
Further information on the DRV website: https://www.rudern.de/indoor-rowing-sportabzeichen

The units can be driven on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. (as part of the Masters Ergodates) and, depending on your interest, also on other dates.

If you would like to participate for 2025, please contact Friederike Winter (masters@mrc1880.de).

MRC Working Group Safe Sport

We have already reported on the topic of safe sport and the working group on violence prevention in the MRC many times. The working group is now called the ‘Safe Sport Working Group’. More information on the topic and the contact addresses can be found here on the homepage:

State of the house refurbishment plan

The preliminary and detailed planning of the architects and specialist planners is about to end, the design planning has already begun in parts. The Grant applications Almost all of them have been submitted (we can submit missing or final documents), the coordination with the Office for the Protection of Monuments and the preparation of the fire protection expert have been largely completed.
So we can do it Construction application It is expected to be submitted soon.

With our decision on the extraordinary. On 11.10.25, we added an important building block to secure financing of the project.
Our fundraising campaign at the end of October has the status of 410 T€ reached. This is a proud number, but with another significant growth target (the target stated in March is €650 thousand), we could still reduce borrowing and thus the decided contribution increase and/or, at best, the surcharge, should we even exceed the donation target.

Undecided among you may be carried away. Whoever can and makes a greater contribution in solidarity, receives in our solidarity community the thanks of all those who can do it less!

In other words: We are almost at the start. Are you ready?

The heating period begins

We continue to save energy and water. Water-saving shower heads have already been installed in the ladies' house.
In the clubhouse. we have partially converted the heating thermostats to digitally controllable and equipped the windows with window sensors. When a window is open, the corresponding radiator now switches off automatically. The temperature is set to low in all rooms, except the changing rooms, and can be up-regulated by the heating team if necessary. So if you are planning a meeting in the seminar room or a celebration in the hall, write in time to Heizung@mrc1880.deSo you can keep it warm. Of course, a celebration must continue with Kristin Teuber (kristin.teuber@mrc1880.de) to be registered.

How can we all help keep our energy costs low, now in winter?
Do not leave windows open. If ventilating, please with shock vents! After ventilation, please close the windows again. If you go last, check again if all the windows are closed.
Do not wedge the entrance door in kitchen operation, but leave it leaning: Just put a towel over the door handles, then the door does not fall into the lock, but is still almost closed.
Also, do not leave the boat hall doors unnecessarily open, because the ceilings of the boat halls are not particularly well insulated.
The last one to go: Turn off the lights everywhere!

Smell paradise Dressing up

It's awful in our locker rooms. Please do not leave sweaty clothes in the locker and do not throw food leftovers in the trash cans in the lockers or in the hall. They are only emptied once a week. Except it stinks, they also attract mice, especially in the clubhouse.

News from the house and yard

Dietrich and Michael have further improved the electrical system. The new boat hall has received a radio light switch at the door. We don't have to crawl behind the boats to turn on the lights. An outdoor light was placed under the canopy at the ladies' house. Switches are on the first column and next to the entrance door. And last but not least, in the clubhouse we now have illuminated counters in the staircase, which are easier to find.

Bernd Kühlein has attached a table tennis set behind the door in the ladies' house and cheered the table tennis table. The record and the equipment can therefore be played again in the spring. Thank you Bernd!

In the year to come, all activities will focus on remediation measures. Our Logistics team has started its work and will plan and coordinate decluttering, relocation and relocation work, transport and demolition work if necessary. The participants include Rolf Schuh, Nick Barr, Guido Gilbert, Wolfgang Jacobi, Arne Kullmann, Uschi Altendorfer, Henriette Holz, Birgit Hassler and Stefanie Monecke. We will communicate upcoming work and hope for your active help.
For the next 2 years we are also looking for dry Storage options for furniture, tools, binders, equipment and – if someone also has temperature stable rooms – also for our works of art. Who can provide such a room (if possible in the vicinity of Starnberg) please contact Stefanie under the heading Storage rooms.

Safe the date: Advent celebration on 14.12.2025

The Advent Celebration is for the 14.12. from 15:00 planned.
New members are in advance at 14:00 Invited to a small information session. Details to follow.

The ‘golden book’ has been archived

The MRC pub book from the founding years, once referred to by Cronenberg as the ‘golden book’, has now been handed over to the Starnberg City Archives, where it is kept securely. As we reported, it had been lost for 70 years before making its way back to the MRC in the spring. Ulrike Mertz has been able to trace the path of the book between 1955 and today, so we can look forward to an exciting article in the next Belt and Skull.

In addition, after extensive research, she was able to identify some of the people depicted in it. The further research can be continued on the basis of the photos of the book, so that the book is now in the city archives.
