The MRC 1880 for rowing in Brittany: 26.5.-1.6.2024

Brittany is different from the rest of France. Particularly interesting for rowers is that the locking of rowing boats is possible without permission of the French department.

Two multi-day tours, each returning to Redon, were on the agenda. The gaps in the boat crew were well filled by luggage, and having reserve sculptures with them should prove itself on the way.

The 3-day tour started in Josselin and led over the Oust as Canal de Nantes à Brest back to Redon. With exit and storage points at the comfortable campsites, we had short distances between accommodation and boats. Very nice is the village of Malestroit, where the bar restaurant "Grain de Sel" can also serve larger groups. The start and stop of the 2-day tour on the Vilaine, St-Senoux-Plechatel and Beslé can be easily reached by train. Here, the accommodation in the pleasant hotel directly at the train station proved to be particularly convenient.

The food supply on the way was ensured by the team led by Marion and Stefan Heuer, who always replenished the tried-and-tested cooler when transfers were to be made by car. Amazingly, we had the so-called land service on board!

The character of the hiking trip was quite that of an exploration tour, in which the insertion or mooring of the boats in unknown places had to be tested again and again with the entire crew. Then a skull broke and once a comrade almost sank into the mud. In committed cooperation, however, a solution was found for everything.

The culmination of the joint venture on the last evening in Redon was our stop at Le Revienz’y, where we reviewed the experiences of the 5-day hiking tour with a delicious 3-course menu, and we are sure: We would love to come back!
