“Hello Chris, come by and start at around 9 a.m. MfG. Wool’
This is how easy it is for the rowing community Treptow, and so Patricia and I did not think long about taking part in the Berlin city crossing on 25 May 2024. On this day, the otherwise closed area of the Spree between Oberbaum and Lessing Bridge opens its doors to rowers and canoeists from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. And they came not only from the 60 rowing clubs in Berlin, but also far beyond Berlin. The event is coveted because it offers a cheerful community experience with a spectacular capital city backdrop from a river perspective. On the Treptow rowing grounds as an eastern collection point, things started to get chaotic when the boats, crews and guests arrived early in the morning, sorted and divided, and then gradually dropped off the dock in threes, fours and eights plus obligatory helmsmen. The weather was wonderful, two locks had to be completed, the mood was relaxed to exuberant, and those who chose the big lap over the Landwehrkanal back had 34 rowing kilometers behind them. In the evening, the Treptow organizers had a cold buffet and hot sausages ready, and the day ended harmoniously with beer, limo or wine.
