Renovation of the clubhouse: Planning phase II

After the feasibility study and the decision at the JHV, the refurbishment planning of our charming clubhouse is entering Phase II with great momentum:

Construction team founded
As the next planning steps become more extensive, Stefanie Monecke has now put together our MRC construction team. Stefan Holz (diploma engineer and expert for metal roofs, among others), Elisabeth Krön (Professor of Project Management and Construction Economics) and Egon Clesius (architect and project manager) are all three from the subject and will supervise the further planning for the renovation of the clubhouse.

Specialist planner commissioned
As decided at the Annual General Meeting, we have now commissioned the architectural firm Sünder-Plassmann as well as the specialist planners for surveying technology, fire protection, energy consulting and structural planning for statics and vibration issues for the new planning stage. The planning stage now started deals with detailed planning and will provide us with a more accurate picture of design and costs.

Architek Tour "Ruder-Bootshäuser Berlin"
For our refurbishment project, a delegation of board and construction team representatives went to Berlin to visit seven historic, partly listed boat houses, which have been or will be renovated in order to benefit from the experiences of others.
Martina Keyser and Martina Günther, together with Detlev and Marianne Pries from Pro-Sport Berlin 24 e.V., organized this extremely informative ride. A big thank you to the four of you!
Other participants were Ulrich Kulozik, Stefanie Monecke and Stefan Spindler from the board, Stefan Holz and Elisabeth Krön from the construction team and Henriette Holz from the history team.
We have received many good tips regarding project financing, including funding acquisition, organization and schedule and have taken good ideas regarding design, structural solutions for sports facilities, fire and monument protection with us.
Especially the state-of-the-art new ergo room in the attic of the RaW impressed us and gave us an idea of what it might look like in the near future. We were impressed by the pleasant temperatures thanks to roof insulation and the building technology. At each of the more than 20 networked ergo places there were sockets, LAN connection and screens. The floor was soundproofed with a special bulk. The training rowers of the RaW are highly satisfied and the Friedrichshagener RV will now build a similar ergo room in the attic.

The full report can be found on the internal homepage here.

Membership in the MRC1880
As announced in the last newsletter, another meeting with interested members of the MRC took place last Monday, during which our recovery plans were discussed and questions from the various member participations were clarified.
The internal section of the homepage also describes in great detail and illustrates how the Management Board has developed the existing restructuring plans in the MRC1880. Just look inside: https://intern.mrc1880.de/interner-bereich/clubhaus/

Historical treasure back on the MRC1880

The ‘Golden Book’, which has been lost for almost 50 years, has found its way back to the MRC1880. Around 1955, it still seems to have been in our possession, because Walter Cronenberg, the author of the 75-year-festschrift, mentions that it contains ‘page after page funny, pleasant, satirical, but also lovable caricatures and verses’ and is called ‘golden’ ‘because it comes from a ‘golden’, from a more carefree time than ours’.

Earlier this year, the MRC was contacted by Mr Michael Blaumeiser from Berlin, who had discovered a ‘guest book of the MRC1880’ in his father’s estate. This, the graphic designer Josef Blaumeiser, had founded the Atelier Blaumeiser for advertising and design in Munich in 1955 and worked for many well-known companies and public institutions. As a cartoonist, he drew for the Munich Evening Newspaper, the Süddeutsche Zeitung, designed posters for the Hellabrunn Zoo and illustrated over fifty books. (https://blaumeiser.eu/, external link). Perhaps the advertising specialist also designed our 75-year commemorative publication and provided for the many, partly full-page advertisements. Our “Golden Book” may have interested him very much as a cartoonist. Maybe Cronenberg left it to him in return.

Dr Otto Grabe, who has been viewing and professionally ordering the archive since 1976, found in any case in a dusty corner only ‘photographs’ from some pages, in the 100-year-festschrift 1980 the book does not even appear anymore.
Michael Blaumeiser, a Berlin-based designer, has given the 181-page book, which is infinitely valuable for the club's history, to the MRC as a free gift. On our cruise ‘Ruder-Bootshäuser in Berlin’ we were able to receive it at a dinner together. We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Blaumeiser for this!
The history team was particularly pleased, Ulrike Mertz will present the work in the next Riemen & Skull, Henriette Holz will clarify what costs would arise for a facsimile so that everyone can view it, even if we will transfer the original to the Starnberg City Archive for safekeeping.

Those who have more or less knowledge of the fate and content of the ‘Golden Book’ are asked to pass it on. Perhaps this beautiful story even motivates us to bring back other missing historical rarities such as the sculpture ‘kleiner Ruderer’ and various trophies, cup covers and tops from the Gründerzeit. If you know something about their whereabouts, you can contact stefanie.monecke@mrc1880.dereport. An anonymous return is also possible: Simply lock it in one of the valuables compartments in the men's locker room and throw the key into the MRC mailbox at the roller door.

House and yard current

fire
As you know, we have been in close contact with the fire survey of the city of Starnberg for several years. Again this year we received great praise for further steps regarding fire protection and escape possibilities. Especially for the construction of two temporary escape routes over the kitchen roof or the aft barn roof. The latter will be provided with a railing, then there will be a fire protection exercise.
After that, we can finally organise club events in the hall again – at least on a small scale. Many thanks to Rolf, Stefan, Christian and Klaus who made this possible.

However, it is still important that all escape routes, the staircase and all corridors in the main house remain free of objects! In addition, doors that go to the stairwell must never be wedged.

Goose fence
After our swan no longer attacks the geese, there are now again larger geese swaths to eat and ‘fertilise’. We have therefore installed two mobile grazing fences on the gig boat ramp and the boat jetty as tests to prevent their incursion. If you want to put a boat on the water or take it out of the water, you can simply pull out one of the poles, put the boat on the water/take it out and then put the pole back in position. Please keep the fence closed, even if you are on the water. We hope that this simple measure can remedy this situation.

Daylight saving time = watering time
Please water regularly all potted plants, the flowering meadow, the three new trees around the ladies house and the small yews, which should make the hedge behind the ladies house dense again (see casting plan).

Bathing jetty
As you have already noticed, the old bathing jetty is currently being dismantled. One element should remain standing until the bridge builder comes, which according to current planning will be at the end of July. You will still be able to bathe.

Review: Drum rolls and crickets on kilometre day 2025

The traditional MRC1880 kilometre day was once again a complete success. Not only was there a lot of rowing, but also grilling. The samba band Drumadama also put together an explosive mixture of traditional and modern rhythms between samba, reggae, afro, salsa, Balkan and funk with great choreographies.

A total of 1,434 km were rowed. A remarkable result, considering that in the afternoon and evening there was hardly any rowing due to the heat!

The kilometre trophy this time goes to Stefan Heuer and Thomas Volckmann with a rowing performance of 45 kilometres. The winner of the competition is Nicole Kofler, who with her estimated 1430 kilometers has almost exactly hit the result of the day.

Review exciting events for Master in May

Costa Rowing Camp on Amrum/North Sea
For the first time, a small group of MRClers was on the Frisian island to participate in the Amrum Challenge. Here is a report.

Vogalonga
The Vogalonga riders, who had a lot of fun during the ‘modern naval battle’ in the Venice lagoon, are also happy to return. Thirty participants in six boats sailed under the MRC1880 flag, one of them borrowed from the MRSV. The Feldafing was previously painted together for the race. All boats were equipped with electric bilge pumps, which are also available for further trips.

An MRC boat is also among the official Vogalonga pictures (external link).

Urgently looking for helpers on the regatta track at the weekend

For the 56th. Federal Competition for Boys and Girls 26-29 June Volunteers are still urgently needed at the following times:

  • Two motorboat drivers on Friday (27.
  • 25 volunteers for the general sports competition on Saturday (June 28)

Unfortunately, without the support of volunteers, such an event is not feasible. The organizers are looking forward to your support! Previous experience is not necessary, but rather the fun of participating in a large event. You can register directly under veitl.m-start.de/auth

If you have any questions feel free to contact us at personal@regatta.de.

Department of Administration: Member data up-to-date?

We ask you to make sure that the correct contact details (e-mail, telephone number) and addresses are stored in the administration so that the club can also reach its members.

On the homepage there is now a form that you can fill out online, and which is then forwarded directly to the administrative director Birgit. See: Change of address – Münchener Ruder-Club von 1880 e.V.

This will hopefully make it a little easier for you to communicate address changes in a timely manner. However, you can still report them directly to Birgit by e-mail (birgit.hassler@mrc1880.de).

Preview from the administration:
Meanwhile, a small IT team (Peter Radke and Julia K.) has come together to promote the digitalization of the association. Initial steps have already been taken to install a communication and cloud system. We will report.
