Report Wanderfahrt Main May 2025

This year it was again on the Main – this time from Bamberg to Ochsenfurt 1.- 4.5.2025

First station: Bamberg - Sand (30 rowing kilometres)

On the sunny first of May we started from Bamberg – unfortunately a short-term inoperable lock was to be mastered, so that we had to undergo a special strength training while carrying the boats and luggage.

Nevertheless, we made it to Sand am Main in a good mood, where we ended the day in a hearty Franconian garden restaurant with our own wine.

Sand - Schweinfurt (30 rowing kilometres)

´s continued down the Main towards Schweinfurt, where it became less industrial and more romantic. Schweinfurt has a very pretty city center despite the strong industrialization and the HotelRoss was definitiv the highlight of our accommodations.

Schweinfurt - Kitzingen (50 rowing kilometres)

The big stage was characterized by changeable weather, with sun, rain, wind and cold - nevertheless we managed, but happily arrived in Kitzingen, where we made it to our accommodation with asparagus, peelings and the then necessary schnapps shortly before a really violent cloudburst.

Kitzingen - Ochsenfurt (20 rowing kilometres)

Great mood on the jetty – today there is a small stage ahead of us and we see that we are still getting on the boat with people with whom we have not yet rowed on this hiking trip. The last lock was again a special adventure – a small, narrow recreational boat lock – with manual operation. Our internal lock keepers got us through well and made it back into the boat using great balance forces.

15 rowers – each was a valued member of our team. Particularly noteworthy are:

  • Polly von Schleussheim as a charming and assertive contact woman to our lock keepers
  • the verification team around Marion, Manja and Kathrin – flrst class snack and always a few biscuits and student food plentiful on board
  • Last, but not least: Stefan as a friendly, professional and relaxed tour guide

Good mood, good performance, friendly francs, mostly sunny weather … 130 rowed kilometres – the happy month of May deserves its name for us.
