On the initiative of Jürgen Bauer and Hansjörg Rembold, a training camp was launched this year: It took place under the direction of coach Tom Thallmeier in Verceia, a small village on the slope of Lake Mezzola. This lake is located just north of Lake Como and is connected to it by the Mera River.
In various cars we drove through snow residues over the passes and to Verceia.
Here we spent a wonderful week: A real sports holiday was required. The local rowing club was within walking distance of the hotel. The daily routine was simple: After breakfast, a video of the previous day was watched, ways to improve the technique were explained by Tom and then rowed. During the lunch break, the video was checked and discussed by the morning rower and then went back to the water. Then a relaxed dinner and off to bed. The next day again from the front!
No one, no matter how experienced, was bored: There was a lot to learn for everyone. And Tom patiently taught us with his wonderfully humorous way. Of course, the weather was much warmer than in Starnberg. Over the river Mera we rowed once on Lake Como and back. Instead of rowing, we used a rainy afternoon for a trip to Lake Como, including the ‘Monumento ai Canottieri Olimpionici’ in Sorico. The ferry ride reminded us of the school days and the trip ended with a gelato for everyone. Thank you, Tom! At the end of the very relaxing week we all made our way home via St. Moritz. Under the guidance of Tom, Harald even dared to cross the Maloja Pass with the boat trailer!
The training camp was so nice that we will offer it again in autumn: Training camp Verceia, autumn 2024
