for this hiking trip, knowledge of French is an advantage, but not a must: In the second week of the Pentecost holidays we go to Brittany (photo: Stefan Heuer 2023). We will be in the Morbihan department in the south on the Canal de Nantes à Brest, which follows the course of the Oust, the small river Aff and on the Vilaine. A typical rural French area, varied in landscape and inland of the westernmost French region.
We are on the road with three hand-controlled gig fours. We get the boats from the rowing club in Redon. Stefan and Marion Heuer will take you to the starting points with their busses - thank you very much for that!
The 130 km are divided into the following stages:
Sunday 26 May: How to get to Josselin or Redon
Monday 27 May: Josselin – Malestroit, 26 km, 9 locks (but there goes fast)
Tuesday 28 May: Malestroit – Peillac, 19 km, 4 locks
Wednesday 29 May: Peillac – la Gacilly – Redon, 34 km, 3 Schl.
Thursday 30 May: Pléchâtel - Beslé, 29 km, 3 locks (Redon overnight stay)
Friday 31 May: Beslé – Redon, 21 km, without locks
Saturday, June 1st: Return journey
Overnight stay: Hotels in Redon and Josselin with some single rooms as well as double, multi-bed rooms and holiday apartments. French double beds are tight – we make sure that, if possible, only couples are accommodated together. In Malestroit and Peillac we are on campsites (simple shared accommodation such as large tents, camping cabins).
Meals: Shared meals during the day and water is provided for everyone, whereby we take turns (travel insurance, costs are charged on the way). As a rule, there is no separate catering during the day. In the evening we can eat at the campsite or in the villages (self-paying).
Baggage: as little as possible. Information on this will follow directly to the participants.
Round trip: At Stefan, up to 4 participants can take part. The rest is by train (one way to Josselin: by bus from Rennes). The costs of tolls, fuel for all journeys on the road as well as for the tickets are divided among the whole group, so that everyone has to bear the same burden. It is expected that an overnight stay will be required on the outward journey (self-payer, not included in the cost calculation).
Costs: The costs can only be calculated approximately. After the trip, a billing takes place; A supplementary payment may be required.
- For boat rentals, trailers, tolls, fuel and tickets, the approximate cost per person is 310 €.
- Bed and breakfast in the hotels (5 nights) per person approx. between 260 € (apartment / double room) and 425 € (single room).
- Overnight stay at the campsite (1 night, breakfast: only basic care, from the travel coffers) per person 24 €.
Total costs therefore approx. €595 – €760, depending on comfort. We try to allocate the desired room category, but we cannot guarantee that.
After confirmation of the registration, a deposit of 200 euros is due. Only then will the application take effect. The provisional balance must then be paid by 30 April.
Who can join? We know that this hiking trip is very popular in advance, and unfortunately only nine places are available (drivers and organizers are set). Circumstances – a long journey, a foreign language, rural seclusion – will require a high degree of flexibility and commitment to the group. Therefore, we would like to reserve them primarily for members who are also otherwise involved in the Munich Rowing Club. Please write us a few lines about your involvement in the club.
Participation is also conditional on 400 rowing kilometres in 2023. Also in 2024, regular rowing in spring and a sea crossing in advance (for example on Lake Ammersee on 1 May) can not hurt.
After the closing date for registration, reimbursement in the event of withdrawal – for whatever reason – is only possible if another participant moves forward. We take out travel cancellation insurance. The instructions of the supervisor or the trip leader must be followed. The rides take place in all reasonable weather conditions. In case of severe weather or other unforeseeable events, no reimbursement of costs.
Closing date: 15. 3. 2024, After that, the seats will be awarded. Registration only with the form provided for this purpose. Place reservation is final only after receipt of payment.
