7,500 people, 1,400 muscle-powered water companions – and in the middle: We, the Munich Rowing Club of 1880. With six boats, 30 rowing boats and a good dose of community spirit and adventurousness, the MRC 2025 was more represented than ever before.
Vogalonga – not a regatta in the classical sense, but a tribute to muscle-powered water sports – took us across the Venetian lagoon, past gondolas, palazzi and amazed tourists.
Ice breaks at Campo San Barnaba, spontaneous boat rescues and non-verbal control art were just as much part of this as tailor-made McGyver bilge pumps. And a festively decorated Bavarian boat was also there – as a sympathetic icebreaker in the international rowing field. A weekend full of anecdotes, improvisation and rowing luck. Venice – You were wonderful. I'm sure we'll see each other again.
And what the whole thing has to do with a 20-liter wooden barrel Augustiner, you will find out in the next issue of the straps & Skull.
